Set at an intermediate / advanced level, this course uses practical case studies, precedents, authentic IHT forms and real probate examples to add flesh to the bones of estate planning. Practical experience of Will writing and estate planning is recommended for attendees.

  2. Client tier analysis: a) below NRB, b) below TNRB and c) beyond the TNRB
  3. Key estate planning errors even experts routinely make
  4. IPDI and Discretionary Will trusts: protection versus versatility, and Deeds of Variation
  5. Lifetime planning: balancing “settlor exclusive” settlements to reduce the IHT estate with “settlor inclusive” settlements to provide protection and security
  6. Slimming diets for the IHT estate: settlements, PETs, bonds, insurance, gifts out of income and reservations of benefit
